Our statement

As the founder of SMERI, we established this institute in 2025 with a clear vision: to create an independent platform that brings together universities, academic institutions, and policy-oriented research communities across Scandinavia and the Middle East.

SMERI is built on a deep conviction that science, education, and humanistic values are essential pillars for sustainable development and meaningful international cooperation. From the outset, my goal has been to foster an environment where academic freedom, inclusive dialogue, and cross-cultural engagement are not only encouraged but actively practiced. Through this, we aim to strengthen mutual understanding and build constructive partnerships across diverse societies.

The institute’s work spans multiple areas, including research, higher education initiatives, policy dialogue, and the organization of international forums such as seminars and conferences. We also prioritize cultural and academic exchange programs, recognizing their importance in enhancing intellectual collaboration and building long-term capacity across regions.

Positioned at the intersection of academia and policy, I envision SMERI as a dynamic platform for informed discourse and innovative thinking. Our mission is to contribute to practical, knowledge-based solutions that support peacebuilding, social cohesion, and long-term stability.
